WATCH: The Rock sends video message to Irish teen battling cancer

Wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has a reputation for being an all-round good guy - and he showed why when he took the time to send an important message.

Johnson was told about a 15-year-old boy from Mayo, Tommy Hanley, who is currently fighting a battle with cancer.

He is a big fan of the star, so Johnson sent him a supportive message, reminding him that he was surrounded by a loving family and reminding him to take care of himself.

"This one's for my buddy Tommy Hanley," The Rock wrote on Instagram. "Just found out he's a huge fan, 15yrs old, living in Ireland and battling stage 4 cancer.

"I've never met you, but I already know so much about you and can tell you're an awesome, honorable and strong young man.

"Make sure you eat up dude and get your rest. Those two things are gonna help you stay strong during this fight.

"Stay being the coolest kid and always keep in mind how much you inspire all your family and friends - including me.

"We're all pulling for you Tommy! Stay strong and Merry Christmas to you and your family ~ Uncle Rock aka Dwanta Claus."

Tommy is a younger brother of AFL players Pearse and Cian Hanley and Pearse thanked the star on Facebook: “This is so incredible and cannot thank The Rock enough…with inspiration like this couldn’t be more confident in my little bro fighting the fight … Cannot wait to see you in a few days Tommy.... Love ya.’’

Pearse and Cian are both on their way home from Australia to spend time with Tommy and the family over the Christmas holidays.
