Sweeney 'suffers broken leg'

Conditional jockey Nathan Sweeney faces a lengthy spell out of action after reportedly suffering a broken leg at Newton Abbot this afternoon.

Sweeney was unseated from the Bob Buckler-trained Ethiopia at the 11th fence of the Newtonabbotrace On Twitter Handicap Chase.

Weighing-room colleague Daryl Jacob revealed: “I’ve had it confirmed by one of our valets and he’s definitely broken his leg.

“I was riding in the same race and he got unseated at the water when we were going quite a gallop.

“It’s a shame as he’d been going really well this year.”
