St Brendan's College Killarney suffered their first defeat in the Corn Uí Mhuirí in three years this afternoon, ending their reigns as both Munster and All-Ireland Champions, with Éamonn Fitzmaurice’s Pobalscoil Corcha Dhuibhne setting up a Munster decider with Marc Ó Sé’s Tralee CBS.
Pobalscoil had the game’s first goal after three and a half minutes from Deividas Uosis, the All-Star Minor-winning goalkeeper finishing cleverly.
The Sem responded instantly through a Paul O’Shea goal and the defending champions looked to be on top after 18 minutes, leading by 1-6 to 1-2.
Pobalscoil dominated the remainder of the first period, with Niall Ó Géibheannaigh finishing off a great team move in the 20th minute before midfielder Seamus Aghás took advantage of a mistake by Sem goalkeeper Robert Osborne for their third goal two minutes later.
Cillian Ó Failbhe registered two points before the break to extend the lead to 3-6 to 1-7 at the interval.
Scores dried up in the third quarter with Pobalscoil extending their lead by a further three points but the Sem were granted a lease of life in the final 10 minutes when Cian Gammell scored from a rebound.
Ciaran Flynn then followed up their third goal to leave only four points between the sides with five minutes left.
Paul O’Shea brought the margin down to three and although the Sem peppered the Pobalscoil goalmouth, they could not turn up the equalising goal for extra-time.
