Newcastle passes inspection

Saturday's meeting at Newcastle goes ahead after passing an inspection.

Gosforth Park had been under the threat of waterlogging, but conditions were deemed suitable to race on Friday morning.

The dry forecast heading into the weekend was also a determining factor in giving the fixture the go-ahead.

Clerk of the course James Armstrong said: "We're raceable, subject to doing some rail movement and taking out the odd obstacle.

"The ground had improved more than I thought it would after a dry night.

"Subject to the dry forecast being correct, we should be OK."

The going at Newcastle is currently heavy.
