Key appeal for Spencer

Jamie Spencer will have his crucial appeal against a two-day ban heard by the Horseracing Regulatory Authority disciplinary panel tomorrow.

Jamie Spencer will have his crucial appeal against a two-day ban heard by the Horseracing Regulatory Authority disciplinary panel tomorrow.

The rider was suspended by the Newbury stewards after they decided he had failed to ride out for sixth aboard High Heel Sneakers in the Bovis Homes Buckhounds Stakes.

As the former champion picked up a ban in France on Sunday, the outcome of his appeal is likely to dictate whether he will be able to ride in the Oaks – in which he would be on leading fancy Dalvina – and Derby at Epsom on June 1 and 2.

Spencer’s hearing is due to begin at 9am.

Trainer Declan Carroll and rider Danny Tudhope will also be at Shaftesbury Avenue as they contest the punishments handed out over the running and riding of King Of Rhythm.

Carroll was fined £6,000, Tudhope suspended for 14 days and the horse banned from running for 40 days after he finished fifth at Wolverhampton on May 3.

The pair were charged under Rule 155 and 157 respectively but contest those charges in a hearing scheduled for 10.30am.
