Ireland U19s played Australia today in the semi final of the Plate Championship in the U19 Cricket World Cup.

Australia, who were favourites to win the World Cup but ended up in the plate competition, were always going to be a tough challenge for the Irish team.

Australia batted first and amassed 340 off their allocated overs. Ireland began with purpose and openers William Porterfield and Gary Wilson kept Ireland up with the run rate.

Wilson scored 48 and Porterfield 44. Once they were out Eoin Morgan took up the challenge and scored an excellent 65.

This was then followed by an outstanding last wicket partnership between Andrew Riddles 29 not out and Allen Coulter 38 not out
