Here is how the games in Italy, France, Spain and Germany finished

Atalanta 3 Sassuolo 0

Atalanta climbed back above AC Milan into seventh place in Serie A after a 3-0 win at lowly Sassuolo.

Andrea Masiello grabbed the opening goal on the half-hour mark when home goalkeeper Andrea Consigli missed a deep free-kick from Josip Ilicic and left him with a simple header into an empty net.

Bryan Cristante, who earlier had a goal disallowed after consultation with the Video Assistant Referee, lashed in the second in the 83rd minute.

And with four minutes remaining Remo Freuler's goal was initially chalked off by the referee but allowed to stand after more VAR discussions.

Sassuolo lost Edoardo Goldaniga to a red card seven minutes into stoppage time.

Paris St Germain 4 Montpellier 0

Edinson Cavani became Paris St Germain's all-time top goalscorer as the Ligue 1 leaders eased to a 4-0 victory against Montpellier.

The striker began the match level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic's haul of 156 goals for the Parisian club but Cavani moved one clear when he found the back of the net after 11 minutes with a close-range finish.

Kylian Mbappe was unavailable for the second match in succession due to a head injury while new signing Lassana Diarra also missed out, but the hosts were unaffected by their absence as a brace from Neymar and an Angel Di Maria goal earned a routine win at Parc des Princes.

Unai Emery's side came flying out the blocks and were inches from taking the lead in the third minute when some neat skill from Julian Draxler set himself free in the Montpellier penalty area, but his chip over the onrushing Benjamin Lecomte drifted just wide of the post.

Junior Sambia warmed the hands of home goalkeeper Alphonse Areola but Cavani only needed 11 minutes to rewrite the record books in Paris.

Neymar collected a long ball down field from Presnel Kimpembe before he threaded a through ball for Adrien Rabiot in the area, who drilled the ball across the six-yard box for the Uruguay international to tap home and spark wild celebrations.

Cavani was inches from adding his and Paris' second of the match 10 minutes later when a wonderful cross from Giovani Lo Celso was destined to find the 30-year-old at the far post, but defender Pedro Mendes got a vital touch to deny the striker.

Conceding the early goal spurred Montpellier into action as Sambia tested Areola once more from long range before Paul Lasne drilled an effort wide and Ellyes Skhiri had a shot well blocked by the home defence.

However, the hosts managed to extend their advantage five minutes minutes before the break when Draxler's goal-bound effort struck the hand of Mendes which gave referee Frank Schneider no choice but to point to the penalty spot, with Neymar converting for his 24th goal in 25 appearances for the club.

The Brazil international went close to netting his second on the stroke of half-time with a great turn and shot from the 15 yards out, with Lecomte thwarting the forward with a great save down to his right.

The second half started in slow fashion with neither side threatening, although the visitors looked the more likely to score.

Sambia saw his powerful free-kick deflect over the crossbar from 25 yards before Lasne's fierce drive from the edge of the area was blocked by the head of Kimpembe.

Montpellier came close to halving the deficit after 67 minutes when a powerful strike from Sambia was parried by Areola straight into the path of substitute Souleymane Camara, but he could only blaze over from eight yards.

However, Michel Der Zakarian's side were to rue their missed chances as PSG increased their lead after 70 minutes when a fantastic pass from substitute Javier Pastore set Thomas Meunier free to cut the ball back for Di Maria to slot in first time.

It got even better for the hosts as Neymar doubled his tally seven minutes from time following a neat flowing move between Di Maria and Cavani set up the 25-year-old to tap into an empty net for their fourth.

Cavani missed a gilt-edged chance from six yards out in the final minute of the match, which would have added further gloss to the result, as Emery's side extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to 11 points.

Valencia 1 Real Madrid 4

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two penalties as Real Madrid struck an emphatic 4-1 victory over Valencia and eased the pressure on Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane's position as coach has come under intense scrutiny, with Real languishing fourth in LaLiga, but his side rose to the occasion at the Mestalla to secure a morale-boosting win.

Ronaldo twice converted from the spot to put the European champions in charge and, while Santi Mina's second-half header gave Valencia hope, a late double from Marcelo and the excellent Toni Kroos put the result beyond doubt.

Victory moves Real to within two points of Valencia in third and reduces the gap behind league leaders Barcelona to a still-sizeable 16.

This performance was a show of faith in Zidane, who will hope it sparks a timely revival ahead of next month's gargantuan last-16 meeting with Paris St Germain in the Champions League.

Zidane has admitted his future may well depend on the outcome of that tie and Real beating an in-form Valencia at least proves they are still capable of delivering when it matters most.

Their shock Copa del Rey loss to Leganes in midweek came after Zidane chose to rest key players but Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were both restored to the side.

Mina and Rodrigo both started for Valencia while new signing from Arsenal, Francis Coquelin, was picked in central defence.

Bale had the first sight of goal when a mix-up between Neto and Ezequiel Garay allowed the Welshman a chance but he volleyed straight at the goalkeeper.

Rodrigo fired a shot over for Valencia before Martin Montoya made the first of his two errors by chopping down Ronaldo in the box, after the Portuguese had made a neat exchange with Marcelo on the break.

Ronaldo slotted home from the spot for his 100th penalty converted of his career and Real's first away goal in the league since October.

Geoffrey Kondogbia's long-range drive forced Keylor Navas into a full-stretch save but the home side were again undone when Montoya this time bundled into Karim Benzema in the box.

Ronaldo this time switched corner but the end result was the same.

Valencia thought they might have had a penalty themselves when Casemiro brought Daniel Parejo down but their appeals were waved away.

There was a lifeline, however, 13 minutes into the second half as Mina nipped in behind Nacho and headed home from a corner.

The goal prompted a sustained period of pressure for the hosts, who looked certain to level when Parejo found space but his finish was brilliantly denied by the foot of Navas.

Valencia had the momentum but failed to capitalise and they were punished twice in the final 10 minutes.

First, Marco Asensio laid on Marcelo to crash home a third before Kroos beat Neto from distance with one minute left to add some late gloss to the victory.

Borussia Dortmund 2 SC Freiburg 2

Jeremy Toljan netted a last-gasp equaliser as Arsenal target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's return for Borussia Dortmund ended in a 2-2 draw at home to Freiburg.

Aubameyang was omitted from last weekend's clash with Hertha Berlin, amid suggestions he was not in the right frame of mind to play.

Arsenal's interest in him remains on the table, but Aubameyang started up front for BVB and was overshadowed by Nils Petersen.

After Shinji Kagawa broke the deadlock early on, Petersen equalised and then fired Freiburg in front in the 68th minute with a screamer from distance.

But Toljan came to the rescue to move Dortmund up to fifth in the Bundesliga.

Leaders Bayern Munich produced a storming comeback to overturn a 2-0 deficit and beat Hoffenheim 5-2 at the Allianz Arena.

Hoffenheim loanee Serge Gnabry reminded his parent club of his talent by having a hand in both goals in the opening 12 minutes.

Former Arsenal winger Gnabry saw Mark Uth convert the rebound after he missed a penalty and then added a second himself.

But Bayern were level after 25 minutes, Robert Lewandowski and Jerome Boateng netting, before second-half strikes from Kingsley Coman, Arturo Vidal and substitute Sandro Wagner extended their lead at the top to 16 points.

Schalke moved up to second following a 2-0 victory at Stuttgart.

Naldo and Amine Harit found the net in the space of five first-half minutes to take their side above Frankfurt and Leverkusen in the table.

RB Leipzig missed the chance to keep up with the chasing pack after drawing 1-1 at home to second-bottom Hamburg.

Bruma's ninth-minute opener was cancelled out by Filip Kostic to leave them two points behind Schalke.

Caiuby's late equaliser denied Cologne a fourth-consecutive win as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Augsburg.

Without a win in their opening 16 matches, resurgent Cologne's great escape appeared to be continuing as Milos Jojic gave them a half-time lead.

But Brazilian Caiuby scored in the 77th minute to keep home side three points adrift of Hamburg.

Levante 2 Deportivo La Coruna 2

Ivan Ivi inspired a dramatic late comeback to help Levante salvage a 2-2 draw against 10-man Deportivo La Coruna at the Riazor.

Depor, trashed 7-1 by Real Madrid last weekend, looked set to leap-frog above their opponents and out of the relegation zone when first-half goals from Adrian Lopez from Florin Andone saw them leading 2-0 heading into the final 10 minutes.

That was despite playing with a man less from the 34th minute after Celso Borges was shown a second yellow card for having an arm raised in an aerial challenge with former Deportivo youth team player Jason.

However, the battling hosts could not hold on for their first win in six weeks as Ivi struck in the 80th and 84th minutes, his first effort going in via a significant deflection before the summer signing netted the equaliser with a superb 25-yard effort.
