Tyrone had centre back Ryan Winters sent off but still managed to beat Sligo by 3-09 to 0-10 in this evening's NHL Division Three Shield final at Breffni Park.

Winters walked nine minutes into the second half, but a two-goal blast from corner forward Peter O'Connor (2-01) in the closing stages saw the Red Hands to victory.

A seventh-minute goal from full-forward Aidan Taggart raced Tyrone into a 1-02 to no score lead. Yet six points from the hurl of Paul Seevers helped Sligo go in at the break with a 0-08 to 1-04 lead. Former Sligo Rovers player Fabio Cretaro was also on target.

Into the second half, points from Padraig McHugh, Mark Winters and Shay O'Neill saw Tyrone hit the front again. O'Connor then netted from a David Lavery pass in the 58th-minute and added his second, seven minutes later, to end the hopes of Michael Shelley's Sligo outfit.

The sides meet again in Group A of the Nicky Rackard Cup on July 8.

Scorers: Tyrone: P O'Connor 2-01, A Taggart 1-00, C McErlean 0-03 (2f), M Winters, J Kelly, S O'Neill (1f), R Winters, P McHugh 0-01 each. Sligo: P Seevers 0-07 (6f), F Cretaro 0-02, M Gilmartin 0-01.
