Portumna 5-19 Loughrea 1-13

Portumna powered to a three in-a-row of Galway Senior Hurling Championship titles with a facile 18-point victory over Loughrea at Pearse Stadium this afternoon.

A flurry of first half goals set Portumna up nicely for the win. They led by 3-2 to 0-1 after 16 minutes, with Neil Keary on target for Loughrea's only score at that stage.

The Portumna attack cut through the Loughrea defence on almost every occasion, with Damien Hayes notching two well-taken goals, while Joe Canning completed the Portumna hat-trick from a close range free.

Loughrea battled on and were rewarded for their efforts with a Johnny Maher goal after a pass from Keary.

But Portumna were always superior. Canning bagged 1-6 before the interval and he continued to have great influence in the second half.

Decisively, Johnny Kelly's men added two more goals to their tally on the restart. They outscored Loughrea by 2-9 to 0-8 in the second half to earn their fifth county title. Their previous successes were in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008.
