Cody drops seven from Cats panel

Despite thrashing Offaly in record fashion, Kilkenny boss Brian Cody has continued his search for perfection by dropping seven players from his panel.

Despite thrashing Offaly in record fashion, Kilkenny boss Brian Cody has continued his search for perfection by dropping seven players from his panel.

With just over two weeks until his side line up against champions Wexford in the Leinster hurling final, Cody has wielded the axe on his 32-strong 'extended' panel.

Brothers Jimmy and Ken Coogan, 2004 Under-21 captain James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick, Sean Dowling, John Maher, Colin Herity and Willie O'Dwyer have all been dropped.

While they will not be involved on match days, Cody has offered the axed players the option of continuing to train with the rest of the squad throughout the championship.

Meanwhile, Cody's own son, Donnacha (James Stephens), Mickey Fennelly (Shamrocks) and Stephen Maher (Tullaroan) - all noted Under-21 players - have earned call-ups to the senior ranks.
