Sir Cherokee will miss today’s Kentucky Derby after suffering a leg injury.

The Arkansas Derby winner was pulled out of the race after trainer Mike Tomlinson found the colt had a small fracture in a bone in his right rear ankle.

“The timing of it is horrendous,” Tomlinson told www.bloodhorse.com.

“His work went well and he came out nicely. We were pleased. He jogged and after the jog he wasn’t himself. He was not lame but he was not 100%. After his bath he was slightly off and he was sore.”

Since Sir Cherokee would have started from stall three, Supah Blitz and Brancusi, who drew the one and two post positions, will move out one slot in the starting gate.
