Brunel has Turkish target

Connections of Brunel are hoping he can put up a good show when lines up for the valuable International Topkapi Trophy in Turkey on Saturday.

Connections of Brunel, trained by William Haggas, are hoping he can put up a good show when lines up for the valuable International Topkapi Trophy in Turkey on Saturday.

The four-year-old takes in the mile contest at Veliefendi racecourse in Istanbul after a season that has already seen him travel to France, Germany and Ireland.

Brunel won the Group Three Prix de la Porte Maillot at Longchamp in June before finishing fourth in Ireland and third in Germany on his last start.

The Marju colt will face six rivals in the Turkish race headed by Kaneko, who was placed in Dubai over the winter, and last year’s race winner Luxor.

“He’s in good form – he’s turned into a bit of a European globetrotter for us this season!” said Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing.

“Some of the syndicate are going over to Istanbul so hopefully he will run a good race.”
