Beo handed Champion aim

Finsceal Beo could tackle 10 furlongs for the first time in the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown – providing underfoot conditions are considered suitable.

Jim Bolger’s dual Guineas-winning filly has yet to race beyond a mile but connections are keen to step her up in trip, with the September 8 contest a potential next port of call.

Bolger said: “She has a very relaxed way of racing and we always felt that a mile would be the minimum trip for her this year.

“I would have liked to have got a run into her over a mile and a quarter before Leopardstown but it wasn’t to be, so she will go straight there if we have good ground.

“If it is soft then we will have to make other plans and there are plenty of options in England and in France,” he told the Racing Post.

“We would look at the Champion Stakes at Newmarket and the Prix de l’Opera, while the Sun Chariot Stakes is another race we might consider.”

If Finsceal Beo is not retired to the paddocks at the end of the year, Bolger says a trip to Dubai could be in the offing in 2008.

He added: “Her owner Michael Ryan likes to travel, and the Dubai Duty Free is worth a lot of money, so it’s possible that if she stays in training as a four-year-old she might start off there in March.”
