Graeme Souness apologises for walking off set during Sky Sport's Premier League coverage
Sky Sports have revealed that Graeme Souness stormed off set during coverage of the final day of Premier League games on Sunday.
The satellite station was broadcasting from Anfield, where Liverpool beat Brighton 4-0 to ensure they finished in the top four, and they had enlisted the former Liverpool manager for punditry duty alongside Thierry Henry.
However, during an ad break Souness reportedly walked out after apparently being interrupted by production staff, saying: "I don’t need this. That’s four times today you have shut me up."
The Daily Mail reported that Sky Sports production staff had asked the 65-year-old to finish his point in time for a commercial break.
After his angry exit he was replaced by Gary Neville. He has since apologised to the production staff with Sky Sports confirming an incident had taken place.
A Sky spokesperson said: "Graeme reacted badly to a directive to wrap up his comments before an ad break.
"But he has been in touch with the production team to apologise."
There was some suggestion that Souness had been withdrawn for inappropriate comments made about Mohamed Salah when he reflected on the Egyptian's Premier League goal record this season.
The Scot had apparently compared Salah to Liverpool legend, Kenny Dalglish, but "with a suntan".
He said: "I was working with Kenny's daughter, Kelly, and I said 'he's like your dad with a suntan. He's got a football brain which has a different picture to most people."
