Tipperary failed to gain revenge for last year’s All-Ireland SHC quarter-final defeat as they slumped to a heavy beating at the hands of Galway.

Babs Keating’s Tipp were too wasteful in Thurles, hitting nine wides in the first half and seven after the break.

Galway led 2-06 to 0-07 at half-time. Top scorer Ger Farragher goaled on 20 minutes and David Tierney made full use of a rare mistake from keeper Brendan Cummins to net on the half-hour.

AllStar Eoin Kelly marked his injury comeback with three points for the hosts. Richie Murray’s 65th-minute goal sealed the Galway win.
