Tyrone 1-16 Kildare 0-18

Captain Mattie Donnelly fired a dramatic winning point six minutes into injury-time in Newbridge to secure Tyrone's first win of the Allianz football league campaign.

Mickey Harte's side and rock-bottom Kildare played out a thrilling second-half in which the sides were level six times in front of a captivated crowd.

Kildare dominated much of the second-half and were a point ahead with five minutes to go but were outscored by 0-3 to 0-1 in the closing stages.

Donnelly scored two of those points, though his winner deep into injury-time was the pick of the bunch as he split the posts with a left-footed kick from way out on the left wing.

It's Tyrone's first win in three outings while Kildare have now lost all three of their matches and will kick themselves for not at least getting a draw here.

Kevin Feely was terrific for them at midfield, shooting eight frees and a point from play, and levelled the game for the eighth time in total in the 73rd minute.

But an earlier miss from him and one from Mark Donnellan came back to haunt the Lilies when Donnelly hit that last-gasp winner.

Both sides were chasing a win to belatedly ignite their campaign after back to back losses.

In Kildare's case, they followed up their Round 1 defeat by Dublin at Croke Park with a narrow home loss to Monaghan.

They seemed buoyed up to avenge that setback as they started with gusto in front of their home supporters again and moved four points ahead.

Fergal Conway scored two of those points as the amped up Lilies thundered into the early exchanges.

Powered by Feely at midfield, they maintained that stranglehold on the contest for 25 minutes and were still four points clear at that stage, 0-8 to 0-4.

But 1-3 from Tyrone in the final 10 minutes of the half turned the game in Tyrone's favour and left the visitors in pole position.

Lee Brennan's 29th minute goal levelled the game for the first time at 1-5 to 0-8 and was a tidy finish after good work down the right.

Cathal McShane put the ball in and Brennan capitalised at the back post when the ball evaded Conor McAliskey, shooting low to the far corner.

Goalkeeper Morgan and McAliskey then followed up with points and Niall Sludden's third of the half left the Red Hands with a 1-8 to 0-10 interval lead.

But with the sides level twice in the early stages of the second-half, it was clear that game was likely to go right to the wire.

That's how it panned out with an entertaining second-half swinging back and forth.

Kildare dominated the possession but couldn't seem to make it count on the scoreboard as Tyrone counter attacked cleverly and picked off a series of crucial scores.

Feely was the beating heartbeat of Kildare's challenge, dictating the play and marshalling all of their moves around the middle third.

His catching and free-taking was superb and he picked out David Hyland with one sumptuous pass that drew a free which he converted himself.

Cian O'Donoghue drove upfield for a point that put Kildare ahead in the 56th minute, 0-17 to 1-13.

But a Donnelly cracker tied it up for the seventh time and McShane nudged Tyrone ahead again before Feely's 73rd minute leveller - laying the platform for Donnelly to pop up with the winner.
