Limerick senior hurling selectors have made one personnel change and three positional changes from their last outing for Saturday night’s All-Ireland hurling qualifier against Tipperary in the Gaelic Grounds.
In the team announced by manager Pad Joe Whelehan and mentors Declan Nash and Damien Quigley last night, goalkeeper Albert Shanahan is dropped from the side that lined out against Cork in last month’s Munster semi-final defeat, and his place is taken by championship debutant John Cahill of Croom.
Switches in the line-up see Mark Foley exchanging his left half-back slot with midfielder Peter Lawlor, Mike McKenna and Niall Moran crossing wings in the half-forward line, and full-forward John Paul Sheahan in a direct swap with centre-forward Seanie O’Connor.
However, these moves are more of an academic nature as both the Foley-Lawlor change and the O'Connor-Sheahan change also occurred before the throw-in for the Cork game.
Not considered for selection because of injury were Murroe-Boher’s Owen O’Neill, who featured at the edge of the square in the closing rounds of the national league and defender Patie Sheahan.
The subs bench sees Sheahan and James Butler replaced by Peter Russell of Monaleen and Willie Walsh of Murroe-Boher.
