Ref makes a run for it during hurling match

A GAA referee came up with a novel method of preventing a melée at a hurling match this weekend.

A GAA referee came up with a novel method of preventing a melée at a hurling match this weekend.

Kildalkey played Kilmessan in the Meath championship in Navan on Saturday and players were bunching around the ball in the middle of the park.

After a first throw-in resulted in a mass of players converging on the sliotar the ref decided to change his methods for the next one.

He sprinted down the sideline with the teams in hot pursuit before throwing the sliotar in once the players had spread out.

We don’t know what the hurlers thought of the move but the crowd certainly enjoyed it.
