Limerick hurler Geary quits
Versatile Limerick hurler Brian Geary has decided to call time on his inter-county career, it has been confirmed.
A tweet today from Limerick GAA Secretary Mike O'Riordan revealed: "Brian Geary has announced his retirement from inter-county activity. On behalf of Limerick GAA, we wish him all the best for the future."
Geary played 45 times for the Limerick senior team, three appearances short of Mark Foley's county record, having made his Championship debut against Cork back in 1999.
The 32-year-old was more noted as a centre-back, a role he starred in when the Shannonsiders reached the 2007 All-Ireland SHC final.
But Geary showed his versatility when playing at centre forward in three Championship games for Limerick this past summer.
The Monaleen clubman burst onto the scene in 2000 with Limerick's highly-regarded All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling title-winning team, and also won Munster U-21 Football honours.
Current Limerick manager John Allen named him in his 40-strong training panel for the 2013 season, but Geary will now not be taking up that offer.
His retirement leaves Donal O'Grady and Niall Moran as the only remaining players from the sides that won an All-Ireland U-21 Hurling three-in-a-row for Limerick at the start of the century.
