There are now just five candidates in the race to be the new Galway hurling manager after former minor and U-21 manager John Hardiman today pulled out of the race.
Galway chairman Noel Treacy confirmed that there are now only five candidates to replace Anthony Cunningham after the formed Athenry hurler decided to withdraw.
Hardiman, a Galway senior selector for three years when John McIntyre was in charge, recently coached Sarsfields to win the Galway SHC tittle and was being viewed as a strong contender.
Former Clarinbridge boss Micheal Donoghue and Cuala manager and former Galway coach Mattie Kenny are the front-runners for the position.
Outgoing U-21 boss Johnny Kelly, Roscommon manager Justin Campbell and former Galway All-Ireland winner Gerry McInerney are the other three nominated for the post.
