Ryan brought his tally to 1-2 with a 30th minute point, but Galway were strongest before the break with Niall Healy accurate from placed balls while Tadhg Haran was also on target as the visitors held a 1-11 to 1-9 interval lead.
Danny Sutcliffe fired Dublin's second goal nine minutes after the restart, in a tight second half.
Niall Healy (0-10) impressed with four unanswered points and a further score from Aidan Harte pushing the Tribesmen ahead.
However, Dublin pressed hard with late scores from Shane Durkin and Ryan to ensure a one-point win.
