Laois 0-19 Down 2-16

Down came from behind to beat Laois and maintain their Division One status with victory in today’s Relegation final at Pairc Tailteann.

James Young, who struck nine points in all, helped Laois go in at the break with a 0-12 to 1-08. Paul Braniff had fired home Down’s goal after 14 minutes.

Braniff and Martin Coulter (1-07) went on to play pivotal roles for the Mourne men in the second half.

Braniff raced his tally up to 1-04 while Coulter flashed a 60th-minute penalty beyond Laois keeper Patrick Mullaney – that goal proved to be the difference for Sean Farrell’s side.
