Cuthbert unveils backroom team

New Cork senior football manager Brian Cuthbert has revealed the make-up of his backroom team for his first season in charge, bringing on board four members of the Rebels' 1999 All-Ireland final team.

Owen Sexton, Ciaran O'Sullivan and Don Davis - the respective centre back, right half-back and full-forward when Cork lost the 1999 decider to Meath - has been confirmed as Cuthbert's selectors.

Meanwhile, Ronan McCarthy from Douglas, who also lined out in that game at right corner back, will be the Rebels' coach under Cuthbert having served as a selector during Conor Counihan's final year.

McCarthy played for Cork in the 1990s and 2000s and was manager of the Douglas senior football team that reached their first county final in 2008. He has also been involved with the Cork development squads.

Kilbrittain man Owen Sexton, 38, played for Cork at senior level between 1997 to 2008. He won an All-Ireland minor medal in 1993 alongside with Cuthbert. A Cork SFC winner with Carbery in 2004, he is still playing football with his club.

Urhan native Ciaran O'Sullivan, whose Cork playing career lasted from 1993 to 2005, notably won an All-Star award in 1999. He won a Cork SFC medal with Beara in 1997.

He is currently heavily involved with coaching in Beara and particularly with his club Urhan, where he has overseen an underage resurgence.

The third and final selector is Don Davis from Skibbereen who lined out for Cork between 1993 and 2000.

Davis won Cork, Munster and All-Ireland SFC medals with O'Donovan Rossa during the 1992/93 season. He has been involved with coaching in his club for a number of years.
