“At this stage, if an outside coach was the best option, I’d have no objection to that,” Morgan said, speaking on the Sportsjoe.ie GAA Hour.

“But I still think John Cleary was the best man for the job. He had a very good record at U21 level. He would be my choice. Whether he would ever go back, I don't know.”

Morgan maintains the Castlehaven man would have taken on the role last year had he been satisfied with the facilities available to the footballers.

“I know he would have taken it but there were certain conditions that he wanted as regards training facilities and stuff like that which weren’t available because the money wasn't there. It was being poured into the stadium.”

And the All-Ireland winning manager and player is perplexed that the frustrations he experienced at the helm still prevail in Cork.

"I remember going cap in hand to different clubs to try and get a pitch to train on during the winter. Obviously, clubs didn't want to give out their pitches during the winter, I don't blame them because they're resting them. So we were going from pillar to post looking for places to train.

"I would have imagined that, by now, Cork would've had a permanent home as other counties do but, to my knowledge, the same story still applies. They're still hopping around from place to place looking for a place to train.”

And Morgan doesn’t see the Páirc Uí Chaoimh redevelopment resolving that issue.

“We’re getting one extra pitch but with all the teams between hurling and football looking for a place to training, the problem isn’t solved really.”
