Cavan boss steps down after two years in job
Cavan are on the look-out for a new senior team manager after Mattie McGleenan stepped down last night.
The Tyrone native had stated after the qualifier defeat to Tyrone that his intention was to stay on as Cavan manager but it was confirmed late last night that McGleenan, whose two-year term ended with the Tyrone defeat, has decided to step away from the position.
McGleenan, who was installed in late 2016 as successor to Terry Hyland, oversaw a return to Division 1 of the National League this season.
A statement from the Cavan county board, issued at 11pm last night, stated: "Following a two-year term, Mattie McGleenan is announcing with immediate effect his decision to step down as Cavan senior football team manager.
"Mattie would like to thank the county board under Chairman Gerry Brady and the officers for the opportunity to manage Cavan and for the continued support over the past two years. He wishes Cavan all the best in the future.
"Cavan GAA would like to put on record their appreciation and gratitude for the huge commitment and effort Mattie and his management have given to Cavan football. Mattie has an infectious positivity and was always a pleasure to work with. We wish Mattie and his family every success in the future."
