Drogheda United have issued a statement insisting that controversial Italian lawyer Giovanni di Stefano has not held talks with the Setanta Sports Cup winners.

Drogheda United have issued a statement insisting that controversial Italian lawyer Giovanni di Stefano has not held talks with the Setanta Sports Cup winners.

Di Stefano, it emerged last week, was keen to invest in Shelbourne claimed he would look at buying into another club after Shels’ CEO Ollie Byrne rejected his offer.

Some media reports suggested that di Stefano had held talks about a potential investment in Drogheda though club officials have moved quickly to rubbish the stories.

A statement read: “Drogheda United FC categorically deny that there has been contact with Mr di Stefano or any of his representatives."
