A woman has died after scaffolding collapsed in high winds outside a concert in South Africa by US rock band Linkin Park.

The victim died after being taken to hospital, said Kylie Hatton, spokeswoman for the city of Cape Town.

She said 19 people were injured, with 12 taken to hospital, after the temporary advertising structure collapsed outside Cape Town Stadium.

Police are investigating the incident.

The band said in a statement: “We wish to express our deep sadness and concern for those injured and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries.”

The band said they had no relationship with the sponsor or group responsible for the scaffold.

They will perform their next gig in Johannesburg on Saturday.
