TV duo working on silent comedy show

Ant and Dec are plotting a silent comedy show.

The popular TV duo have reportedly taken inspiration from famed British comic Charlie Chaplin to come up with the blueprint for an innovative new Saturday night entertainment programme, which will be reminiscent of the iconic joker's black-and-white silent gags.

A friend of the presenters told The Sun newspaper: "Ant and Dec had a great idea for a comedy which is completely silent. There will be some slapstick, but it won't just be full of physical gags.

"They have already started working on a script and hopefully they will find time to film it this year or early next."

The pals - whose full names are Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly - are likely to hark back to the pre-1920s silent movie era thanks to the trend started by Michael Hazanavicius' Oscar-winning film 'The Artist' last year, and the show is expected to feature plenty of visual comedy.

ITV are thought to be broadcasting the show, but the Geordie duo's exclusive deal with the network expires at the end of 2013 so the inseparable pair could go in a different direction.

Ant and Dec are best known for their presenting gigs, hosting the likes of 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!', 'Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway', 'Pop Idol' and 'SMTV Live' over the course of their long-running career.

They first rose to fame as teen actors on cult TV show 'Byker Grove' before launching a pop career they under their characters' aliases, PJ & Duncan.
