Tipperary’s Anton Banaghan opens up about his X Factor audition

If you were watching X Factor this weekend, you would have seen Anton Banaghan - the 21-year-old from Tipperary who wowed the crowd with his rendition of George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’.

Since then, the X Factor hopeful has been inundated with fans and took the time this morning to chat to the crew over at 2FM's Breakfast Republic about the whole experience.

“Bootcamp was amazing, it was a great experience, it was different, I didn’t know what to make of it, there was loads of big personalities over there,” he said.

Anton, who’s originally from Romania, moved to Tipp when he was little and has been only singing for three years, with no singing lessons.

After his original audition Cheryl Fernandez Versini said: "Anton everything that you did on that stage takes star quality and I think that you have that”.

He received four yes votes from the this year’s judging panel and Nick Grimshaw added that he really loved his voice.

Talking about the audition, Banaghan said: “I was more excited when I got onto that stage and everyone started cheering.

“I was more nervous before I went on and that waiting around I was more nervous but when I got on that stage , it changed, the nerves were gone, it was definitely more excitement,”

Unfortunately, the part-time barman didn’t make it through the Boot Camp stage after his performance with his group.

Watch this space though, as we’re sure we have not seen the last of this budding star yet.
