There is “still some work to be done” on the assault case in Florida involving Sir Rod Stewart and his son Sean, a court has heard.

The veteran rocker (75) allegedly punched security guard Jesse Dixon in the ribs at a luxury Palm Beach hotel in a dispute over entry into a private party on New Year’s Eve.

Sir Rod and Sean (40) have both pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple battery.

A hearing was held via Zoom on Friday, where defence lawyer Guy Fronstin said there is “still some work to be done on the cases”.

The defence team is still trying to locate a video in relation to the case, he told the court.

Judge August Bonavita, who wore a mask for the short hearing, set another pre-trial hearing for October 23rd.

Sir Rod and Sean were not on the Zoom call.

The singer and his son were charged following an alleged altercation with a guard at the Breakers Palm Beach Hotel on New Year’s Eve.

Mr Dixon alleges they were part of a group attempting to get into a private party in a children’s area, according to police documents.

When asked to leave, it is alleged Sir Rod and his group “began to get loud and cause a scene” before Sean got “about nose to nose” with Mr Dixon.

The security guard claimed that Sean shoved him backwards after he put the back of his right hand on his chest, and that Sir Rod then stepped towards him and punched him in the ribs.

Sir Rod has been married to the model Penny Lancaster (49) since 2007.
