Harry Potter author JK Rowling received an honorary degree from Harvard University on Thursday.
Rowling, presented with an honorary doctor of letters degree, stressed to graduates the importance of imagination in her speech at the Cambridge, Massachusetts commencement ceremony.
She told guests: "We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already; we have the power to imagine better."
Groups of alumni in attendance paid tribute to the novelist by carrying brooms during a procession.
