The stage adaptation of Irish Examiner columnist Louise O’Neill’s novel, Asking for It is set for a run in the UK next February.

It has been confirmed that the powerful drama will see its UK premiere at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

Louise O’Neill’s novel, which was adapted for the stage by Meadhbh McHugh, in collaboration with director, Annabelle Comyn, takes a brave look at victim blaming and the concept of rape culture.

A revival of the play opens in Cork tomorrow where the first of 11 shows in the Everyman Theatre before transferring to The Gaiety Theatre in Dublin.

"This is a really exciting moment for The Everyman," said Julie Kelleher, Artistic Director of The Everyman.

"We’re enormously proud of our involvement with Asking for It and it is a dream come true to be bringing a show as special as this one to Birmingham Repertory Theatre at the start of Sean Foley’s tenure.

Author Louise O’Neill added: “It has been such an honour to see my novel adapted for stage in such a spectacular fashion.

"It has started many vitally important conversations here in Ireland and I know it will do the same when it moves to Birmingham next year."
