JK Rowling has tweeted her excitement as thousands of young girls turned out to audition for a role in a Harry Potter spin-off film.

Rowling posted: “I’m so looking forward to meeting our Modesty!”

Budding actresses queued for hours at the ExCel Centre in London for the chance to star as the character Modesty in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

The film, set 70 years before the Potter saga, is based on a Hogwart’s textbook of the same name.
