Golfers told to keep off the grass for Corr wedding
Golfers forking out around €50,000 to join an exclusive resort in the west of Ireland are being told to keep off the grass on the day it hosts a lavish celebrity wedding.
Andrea Corr is expected to marry stockbroker Brett Desmond, son of billionaire Dermot Desmond, in a glitzy ceremony at the links course in August.
It is understood the event prompted bosses at the Doonbeg Golf Club to write a letter to members, asking for privacy.
The Co Clare coastal club has about 500 members who each forked out US$70,000 (€49,200) to join and pay annual green fees of $5,500 (€3,866) for the privilege of a round. The club declined to comment.
A spokesman said: “The club doesn’t comment on any matters in relation to guests or potential guests.”
Corr rocked to stardom in the early 1990s with her siblings Caroline, Sharon and Jim with the group The Corrs, releasing several hit singles.
The couple are notoriously private and their wedding plans have been a closely kept secret.
Mr Desmond is regarded as one of Ireland’s most successful entrepreneurs, worth around €2bn.
Doonbeg, overlooking the Atlantic, was designed by Greg Norman, two-time champion of the Open and PGA Tour player of the year in 1995 and who won the Vardon Trophy three times.
The club opened in 2002 and charges $70,000 (€49,200) to join up, but this is refunded when you leave.
Members are also asked for an annual fee which ranges from $7,000 (£4,200) for families, $5,500 (€3,865) for Irish-based players and $3,780 (€2,656) for overseas members.
