Bob Geldof is launching a channel aimed at promoting world peace.

The anti-poverty campaigner is getting involved in the development of the online channel, according to Broadcast magazine.

It will be run by Ten Alps, the independent production company Live Aid founder Geldof helped set-up in 1999.

The ex-Boomtown Rats star turned business tycoon plans to launch the channel, which will be funded by Norwegian organisation Point of Peace, in 2008.

Ten Alps Digital managing director Nigel Dacre told Broadcast magazine: “This will be more than just an online TV channel.

“It will be a networking site for people interested in a peace resolution all around the world.”

Irish rock star Geldof was nominated for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for organising the Live 8 benefit concerts.
