Former Dubliners member Jim McCann dies at the age of 70
Former member of the The Dubliners Jim McCann has died at the age of 70.
The singer - who was a member of The Dubliners from 1974-1979 - grew up in Rathgar, Dublin.
McCann then had a successful solo career as a singer - despite studying as a doctor - and hosted a series called The McCann Man on RTÉ.
One of his most famous recordings was Grace, which he released in the 1980s. He is also acclaimed for his renditions of Carrickfergus and Boolavogue.
In 2002, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and which evetually led to him not being able to sing.
“A great storyteller and raconteur who would keep us entertained for hours. He was effervescent, bubbly and good humoured,” former Dubliner John Sheahan has said.
“An incredible singer with a beautifully sweet lyrical voice.”
