Electric Picnic 2015 draws to a close

As the curtain falls over a sell-out Electric Picnic 2015, plans are already underway for next year’s event.

Commenting on the weekend, Festival Director Melvin Benn said "The festival was brilliant, it was better being bigger and it hit every spot there was to hit.

"Blur were absolutely exceptional and they were bouncing off the walls after they came off the main stage on Saturday night. I’m already looking forward to what we’ll have in store for 2016".

Sunday started in traditional fashion with Dublin Gospel Choir’s ‘Sunday Service’ rousing campers and setting the tone for another musical feast, which is expected to end with the musical high of Florence + the Machine.

The Boomtown Rats also played the main stage today for the first time.

And as campers pack up their rucksacks for another year, those who wish to leave their tents behind are being encouraged to pack them up and leave at the information centre in their campsite or in Global Green, where volunteers from Cork Calais Refugee Centre, Dublin Calais Refugee Centre and Dublin Simon Community will be collecting them to re-use.

Thomas Cosby, the owner of the Stradbally Hall, said this year has been his favourite to date.

"It has been incredible having so many people on site enjoying themselves.

"The growth in numbers has created an electric atmosphere and the vibe this year has been very special.

"We really tried hard to keep it green this year and I’ve been impressed with how people have been following our lead. I look forward to welcoming all our loyal fans back again next year."

Melvin Benn also confirmed that tickets for next year’s three-day musical extravaganza will go on sale Friday September 11 at 9am from usual outlets.
