Director Francis Ford Coppola's family was stunned he became a big star, because he grew up an ugly, untalented "black sheep".
Coppola boasts a glittering back catalogue of movies, including the 'Godfather' trilogy and 'Apocalypse Now' - and has won an astonishing five Academy Awards.
However, he claims his success astonished his parents and siblings, who expected him to end up unmarried, jobless and penniless.
He says: "Oddly enough, I was the black sheep of the family. I was not the bright student, I was not the handsome brother, I was not anything. I was like the jerk of the family, and it was mysterious how I should become so successful."
