Jo Joyner admits her cancer storyline in 'EastEnders' is taking its toll on her emotions.

The 33-year-old actress plays cervical cancer victim Tanya Branning in the BBC One soap and although she didn't think the tough scenes were affecting her at home, her husband Neil Madden is worried about how "miserable" the hard-hitting plot is making her off set.

She told the Daily Star newspaper: "Rather than it making me depressed after filming those difficult scenes I tend to go home relieved that it's not my life.

"I go home and laugh even more hysterically than I would normally because of what's happening to Tanya. Saying that, my husband doesn't agree. He thinks I carry it all more than I do. He says I come back miserable but once I've put the kids in the bath and had a laugh then I feel good again."

Jo has previously revealed she considers it a "privilege" to be asked to star in such serious scenes and she is determined to make it look as realistic as possible onscreen.

She said: "It's a privilege to be given any sort of serious storyline and a real responsibility. I'm going to make it as honest and true to life as I possibly can.

"I will grab every chance I can to show Tanya dropping her guard."
