Sandra Bullock was a double winner at last night's Oscars as not only did she take home the Best Actress award, she dazzled in the style stakes.

The 45-year-old beauty looked stunning in a silver figure-hugging sequinned Marchesa gown, which also left her feeling great.

She said: "It's the dress that looks fantastic, not me. It feels wonderful to wear."

And it seems silver was the colour of choice for many attending the prestigious ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

Kate Winslet - who won the Best Actress honour last year and presented an award at last night's ceremony - looked beautiful in a strapless gown by Yves Saint Lauren, which she teamed with Tiffany diamonds.

Best Actress nominee Dame Helen Mirren showed off her elegant style in a Badgley Mischka dress and Chopard jewellery, while 'Avatar' beauty Zoe Saldana impressed in a lavender and silver Givenchy gown.

Cameron Diaz was breathtaking in a strapless Armani Prive dress, with her blonde hair tumbling in loose curls past her shoulders.

Jennifer Lopez and Amanda Seyfried both turned up in very similar pale, full-skirted and strapless gowns.

Nude was another popular colour with Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore, Diane Kruger and Victoria Beckham all opting for the shade.

Other stars who impressed were Sarah Jessica Parker in pale yellow Chanel Couture with silver flowers at the neckline and Carey Mulligan, who wore a Prada strapless black gown decorated with miniature scissors, spoons and forks, with Fred Leighton earrings.

The Best Actress nominee said: "After this I'm going to party and eat again. I love to eat but for weeks and weeks and weeks I've had to keep the weight down because of the gowns for the awards shows.

"I won't have to walk the red carpet again in high heels, hooray!"
