Broadcaster Niall Boylan reveals suicidal thoughts after marriage collapsed; friend's support was key

Broadcaster Niall Boylan has revealed for the first time how he seriously considered taking his own life after his marriage collapsed last year.

“For about four months, I was so depressed. There was one night I genuinely felt like there was no way out,” he has said in an exclusive interview with Hot Press magazine.

I was up on Howth Head, five hours sitting in the car. And if it wasn’t for a good friend of mine on the phone, I don’t know what I would’ve done.

In the startlingly honest interview with the magazine’s senior editor Jason O’Toole, Boylan talks about everything from finding love again after his marriage break-up and his battle with alopecia to taking drugs in his wild youth.

I tried pretty much everything - except cocaine or heroin.

The Classic Hits 4FM presenter has talked in the past about being adopted, also revealed that he believes his birth was the result of his biological mother being raped

He said she had started to talk about it but, "I didn’t push her because it was upsetting her".

Read the full in-depth interview in the new Hot Press, which is out today (Thursday).
