Russell Brand admits his remake of 'Arthur' was a "mistake".

The comedian and actor starred in the 2011 reworking of the Dudley Moore film - about a rich playboy who stands to lose his inheritance by falling for the wrong woman - but now recognises it didn't come off as well as the filmmakers intended.

He told The Sun newspaper: "I didn't know a lot about script construction. I know more now. I was just embracing things enthusiastically. I thought I could do anything."

The movie - which also starred Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner - was badly received by critics and Russell admits the reaction hurt him.

He added: "I felt a little bit bruised. I felt I'd made a mistake."

The 37-year-old star has since appeared in 'Rock of Ages' and filmed a part for new plane crash survivor film 'Paradise', but the role he has really set his sights on is appearing in the new 'Star Wars' films being developed by Disney as either a Jedi warrior or villain Darth Vader.

He said: "Why wasn't I invited to play Darth Vader? I could be a Jedi! Why have they not invited me to participate?

"I'd do anything like that - to be a Jedi for the children. As yet unborn."

Casting and development on the newest episodes in the 'Star Wars' series are still in their very early stages, but the first film will be directed by J.J. Abrams.
