Justin Bieber has said that his "thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim", after a paparazzo was hit by a car and killed after taking photos of Bieber’s white Ferrari on a Los Angeles street.
"While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim," Bieber has said in a statement to the press.
"Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."
Officer James Stoughton of Los Angeles police said the photographer, who was not identified, died at a hospital shortly after the crash last night. He said Bieber was not in the Ferrari at the time.
The sports car was parked on the side of Sepulveda Boulevard near Getty Centre Drive after a traffic stop. The photographer was struck as he walked across the boulevard after taking pictures.
Officer Stoughton said no charges are likely to be filed against the motorist whose car hit the man.
