30 Scarlett Johansson facts for her 30th birthday

Scarlett Johansson turns 30 today and has managed to fit a lot into those 30 years. She’s twice been named the world’s sexiest woman, featured in countless films as well as plays and has recently had her first child.

We decided to look at a few facts about her on this milestone. Thirty facts, actually. Seemed appropriate.

1. Johansson’s first film was North in 1994.

2. She was given an ‘introducing’ credit for The Horse Whisperer, but it was actually her seventh film despite being just 13 at the time.

3. She supposedly started smoking at 15 and has had trouble quitting since.

4. She got given a nickname, like many celebrites, which she does not like. She said to Glamour about the name ScarJo: “…It sounds tacky. It’s lazy and flippant… And there’s something kind of violent about it. There’s something insulting about it.”

5. She is apparently very afraid of cockroaches, after once waking up with one on her face. Eesh.

6. When she turned 20, ten years ago, she celebrated at Disneyland. We wonder where she’s celebrating this milestone?

7. She was born three minutes before her twin brother Hunter.

8. She was in Home Alone 3, playing Alex’s sister Molly. You may not have noticed because everyone stopped watching after Macaulay Culkin wasn’t in it.

9. Johansson would’ve had the lead role in The Parent Trap but she lost it to Lindsay Lohan. You can argue that may have been a blessing in disguise given the two’s very different career trajectories.

10. She was in Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around Comes Around” video.

11. She was supposedly “too sexy” to play Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, according to the casting directors.

12. Anywhere I Lay My Head and Break Up are the two albums released by Johansson.

13. She was the first celebrity to appear in The Looney Tunes Show, despite the fact that she didn’t actually voice the character – aptly named Starlet Johansson.

14. She’s never won a Golden Globe but has won a Bafta for her role in Lost In Translation – regarded as one of her finest films.

15. Her lips are supposedly the reason for Katy Perry’s song I Kissed A Girl.

16. She directed this, starring Kevin Bacon.

17. She is currently said to be behind the camera for her directorial debut of a full-length film, Summer Crossing, Truman Capote’s first novel.

18. She loves going to the cinema, and supposedly dresses up as a man so she can go without being noticed.

19. She apparently loves Frozen, and dreams of doing a Disney musical.

20. And she also apparently used to smoke weed “elegantly”. We couldn’t imagine it any other way, to be honest.

21. One song that can instantly make Scarlett happy? Jump Around, by House of Pain. It makes us happy knowing that.

22. Her favourite TV shows are re-runs of I Love Lucy, and House Hunters International.

23. She’s very politically active and is a fan of Barack Obama.

24. Johansson fired her mother as her agent in 2009 – an arrangement that had been in place since she was nine. Money got a bit tight for her mum after that. Read the article before you feel sorry for her.

25. She was in The SpongeBob SquarePants movie. She played King Neptune’s daughter, Mindy.

26. She isn’t often embroiled in controversy but she was this year when her role as an Oxfam abassador was brought under scrutiny, after becoming SodaStream’s first ever global ambassador. They have a factory in a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank.

27. Her and her fiance Romain Dauriac met through a tattoo artist who was a mutual friend.

28. E! reported that she may have got married in private recently. Her first child, Rose, was born in September.

29. For her ideal dinner party, Johansson would invite Bette Davis, David Bowie and Bono.

30. And, if there was one thing that she wishes she knew when she was younger? To invest in Apple.

Don’t we all, Scarlett, don’t we all.
