Newcastle are free to concentrate on their Intertoto Cup final second leg against Troyes after UEFA today threw out an official complaint from the French club regarding the eligibility of Nolberto Solano.
The 26-year-old South American has been embroiled in controversy over reports that he is to be charged in connection with an investigation into passport irregularities.
It is this which prompted the appeal from Troyes which was as unexpected as it was unlikely to succeed.
A UEFA spokesman said today: "UEFA have rejected the complaint from Troyes regarding Nolberto Solano.
"The player is Peruvian-registered, he has got a license from the national association and there was never any problem at all."
The two sides played out an acrimonious goalless draw in France with Newcastle also complaining about the treatment of their supporters during the tie.
