Sails likely to bypass Epsom

Lateen Sails is likely to bypass the Vodafone Derby in favour of a tilt at the Grand Prix de Paris, it has been confirmed.

Lateen Sails is likely to bypass the Vodafone Derby in favour of a tilt at the Grand Prix de Paris, it has been confirmed.

The colt, who was recruited from the Henry Cecil yard at the end of last season, was thought to be Godolphin’s main Derby hope after his success in the Michael Seely Memorial Glasgow Stakes at York last time.

However, racing manager Simon Crisford has revealed that Graikos and New South Wales are now their two Epsom hopes although both of those could be pulled out of the race if the ground is too fast.

“Graikos and New South Wales are our two possible runners, as Lateen Sails is likely to run in the Grand Prix de Paris,” he told the Racing Post.

“Both need to get their toe in though and if the ground gets too fast, we could be without a runner.”
