In a landmark decision, the High Court has ruled that a doctor is no longer fit to practise because his ill-health poses a risk to the public.

The court decided in private to overturn its earlier ruling not to have the doctor suspended from the medical register.

The Medical Council had recently applied to have the doctor suspended, pending an inquiry by its Fitness to Practise Committee.

The doctor, who cannot be named for legal reasons, can no longer work in medicine until a full inquiry into his case is concluded.

The nature of his ill-health was not disclosed.
