An Israeli motorist has been shot and killed in an ambush near the border between east Jerusalem and the West Bank.
The killing has had an immediate effect at Israeli-Palestinian peace talks at the Egyptian resort of Taba.
Israeli negotiators have broken off a session with Palestinians and have gone into a side room for consultations.
The talks had resumed earlier in the day after a two-day suspension after two Israelis were killed in the West Bank.
Police say gunfire apparently came from an industrial park, next to the main road leading from Jerusalem to Ramallah and Nablus in the West Bank.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has denounced the killing as "a despicable murder," and has vowed that the gunmen will be apprehended and punished. He did not refer to the negotiations in Taba.
