Scotland will struggle to contain the power of South Africa, according to Barbarians forward star AJ Venter.
Venter, who was man of the match against England in the Barbarians’ win at Twickenham but who cannot make the current Springbok squad, believes the Scots will struggle to contain the Boks on the hard, dry fields in the republic.
“They will struggle in South Africa, although one should not read too much into their display against the Barbarians,” Venter told the Beeld newspaper.
“It was very wet, and the Scots had to adapt to the Baa-baas’ style of play, which meant they could not really implement their own game plan.”
Venter said he was disappointed about being left out of the South Africa team for the first Test against Scotland in Durban on June 7.
“I was disappointed. I have not spoken to Rudolf Straeuli (the national coach) yet. I’ll establish just where I stand once I return to South Africa, but I’m determined to fight my way back into the team,” said the fiery forward, who plays most of his rugby at lock now.
Scotland play their first of two Tests against the Springboks next Saturday in Durban, followed by the second Test at Ellis Park in Johannesburg a week later.
