Govt accused of failing to tackle inflation

The Labour Party has accused the Government of doing nothing to tackle Ireland's inflation problem.

The Labour Party has accused the Government of doing nothing to tackle Ireland's inflation problem.

Party spokesman Kathleen Lynch said the Government "allowed prices to spiral out of control" after it had secured a second term in office last year.

"The only thing they cared about was being re-elected," she said.

The Central Statistics Office reported a 0.2% fall in the annual inflation rate today, but Ms Lynch said prices are continuing to rise and the Government must accept the blame.
